The aim of the project is to investigate the interaction between agricultural use and solar power generation: In particular, under real agricultural conditions and with various technical solution approaches.

Further information on the project can be found on the TUM website under Agri-Photovoltaics at TUM

A research laboratory in the open air

The test site in Dürnast near Freising acts as a realistic laboratory in which various agri-PV concepts are tested under real-life conditions. Among other things, TUM is investigating:

– How does Agri-PV influence plant growth?

– What effects do different APV systems have on soil moisture, microclimate and biodiversity?

– How can the dual use of agricultural land be optimized?

– How economical are the different systems in comparison?

The aim is to develop scientifically sound recommendations for farmers, planners and decision-makers. The long-term goal is to establish Agri-PV as a viable pillar of sustainable agriculture.

PAN in the research field: Functionality meets system intelligence

With the Agri-PV system PAN, T.Werk is introducing a concept into research that is specifically tailored to the requirements of agricultural operations. As an integrated fencing and photovoltaic system, PAN fulfills two central functions:

1. dual use of the land: The vertical APV system PAN makes it possible to continue using the fields for agricultural purposes and produce electricity at the same time.

2. profitability & resilience: The double yield provides farms with a stable and secure income in the long term and helps them to adapt to the consequences of climate change.

Thanks to its modular, robust design and low maintenance requirements, PAN is particularly suitable for long-term use in demanding environmental conditions.

Technological strengths at a glance

Our Agri-PV fencing system PAN offers a number of advantages that make it particularly attractive for agricultural practice and research:

– External structural analysis: PAN is subjected to complex stability analyses such as buckling, lateral-torsional buckling and lateral-torsional buckling by an external structural engineer. In addition, thin-walled cross-sections are dimensioned in accordance with DIN EN 1993-1-3. In this way, T.Werk actively safeguards the structural risk and creates maximum transparency and safety. The design is carried out neutrally and exclusively on the basis of technical safety.

– Flexible integration: In addition to its main use as an agri-PV system, PAN can also be used as a pasture fence, plot demarcation or to enclose commercial units: PAN adapts to a wide variety of requirements. The row length and spacing are flexible and are adapted precisely to the specific requirements of the agricultural use or the respective project.

– Special galvanization prevents zinc erosion: The Magnelis® coating of our Agri-PV fencing PAN offers excellent corrosion protection and is resistant to chloride and ammonia-containing environments. This guarantees sustainable, resource-saving and low-maintenance operation for many years.

– Eligibility: PAN complies with DIN SPEC 91434 and is therefore eligible for GAP funding

Research meets practice: a project with a signal effect

The collaboration with TUM underlines T.Werk’s commitment to developing innovative solutions for the energy and agriculture of tomorrow. We are particularly pleased that our PAN system is part of this scientifically supported test field – because only through sound research can agrivoltaics be established as a viable concept in the field.

We would like to thank the Technical University of Munich for their trust and look forward to the scientific results!

The collaboration with our partner feld.energy as part of this research project was a complete success. We are proud of this strong partnership and look forward to the official inauguration of the TU Munich Agri-PV Park on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Learn more:

TUM project page Agri-Photovoltaics

As part of a pioneering research project, we were able to install our Agri-PV system PAN on the test site of the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
