Germany leads the world in wind and solar

In the first half of 2020, Germany has so far generated around 42% of its total electricity feed-in from wind and solar power plants.

The chart shows that the Federal Republic of Germany is thus a global leader, eclipsing even Australia, China and the USA.

According to climate think tank Ember, wind and solar energy will account for around ten percent of global electricity generation in 2020. A big step forward compared to the low share of just five percent five years earlier. Since 2015, renewable energies have been able to wrest a market share of five percent from coal, which will be 33 percent worldwide in 2020. Fossil fuels are gradually being replaced by renewables in most countries around the world; however, this is happening faster in some countries, such as Germany, than in others.
