TRITON flora: Precise Planning for Green Roof PV Systems

Precise planning of PV systems on green roofs is crucial, particularly regarding area efficiency, installation times, and structural requirements. For our TRITON flora green roof system, we provide detailed information on potential row spacing here.

Why is row spacing crucial?

Row spacing indicates the distance between the rear feet of one module row and the next. This distance depends on the chosen tilt, module size, and the connectors used. Correctly calculated row spacing is essential to avoid module shading and ensure optimal area utilization of the installed PV system.

Important: The vegetation can only be permanently maintained and developed if sufficient sunlight and precipitation reach it between the module rows. Insufficient spacing leads to persistent shading, complicates maintenance (pruning, removal of invasive growth, inspection of drains), and can thus lead to a loss of green roof functionality.

In practice, a row spacing of at least approx. 50–80 cm is recommended as a guideline for solar green roofs (depending on orientation/system).

Overview: TRITON flora XL 15° South Green Roof System

In the south orientation of our TRITON flora green roof system, the row spacing varies depending on the connector set used. The base width of 1,473 mm is supplemented by the respective length of the connector:

Connector set (a)Module spacing (c)Row spacing 1,473 mm + (a)
120 (24 mm)394 mm1,497 mm
168 (72 mm)442 mm1,545 mm
240 (144 mm)514 mm1,617 mm
360 (264 mm)634 mm1,737 mm
456 (360 mm)730 mm1,833 mm
528 (432 mm)*802 mm*1,905 mm*

*Standard configuration

TRITON flora XL 15° East-West

For the east-west orientation, the row spacing is the sum of two base lengths (2 × 1,473 mm) plus the connectors used on both sides. This ensures flexible scaling.

Example of the standard configuration:
1,473 mm + 360 mm + 1,473 mm + 264 mm = 3,570 mm

Conclusion

With this new overview of row spacing for the TRITON flora green roof system, planners, solar installers, and specialist partners receive valuable support for the precise design of their photovoltaic projects on green roofs.
